J’s story of strength in the face of adversity reminds me of the long-term impact Anchor House has on the youth and young people we serve:
J’s Story of Hope in Action
J received help through both our Street Outreach and Coordinated Entry Assessment System teams who assisted while he was in and out of homelessness and couch surfing. He faced many challenges with his family and found himself having nowhere to go.
Anchor House was there for him, providing necessities– food, securing shelter, access to services and resources such as employment assistance and life skills education. After moving, J stayed in touch with Anchor House.
Recently, J called one of his Case Managers to share how much Anchor House impacted his life. J proudly shared that he is now a certified security guard working at an airport, has his own apartment, purchased a car, is saving money and rebuilt his relationship with his mother. Yet J said his reason for calling was not to share his achievements—it was to express gratitude.
Today, J wants to pay it forward. He is interested in volunteering with Anchor House to support the programs that once helped him and he hopes to advocate for others facing similar challenges.

Growing Need, Uncertain Times
With cuts to services for individuals experiencing homelessness, this means our essential programs to provide shelter, hope and opportunity are at risk. Yet the need for services continues to grow.
A recent report shows a 136% increase in homelessness in Mercer County between 2020 and 2025 and with Medicaid cuts, the recent expansion of our mental health services will be needed now more than ever.
