April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is an especially meaningful time for all of us at Anchor House, as many of the youth we serve have faced abuse and neglect. In addition to the kickoff of National Child Abuse Prevention Month during our birthday celebration on April 1, Anchor House participated in activities throughout April.

Anchor House was proud to join many community partners on April 17 for the 2026 Child Abuse Prevention Month Ceremonial Walk from Shiloh Baptist Church to the NJ State House and for the planting of NJ’s Big Pinwheel Garden. Blue pinwheels serve as the national symbol for Child Abuse Prevention Month and represent the safe, healthy future all children deserve. The event was hosted by New Jersey Children’s Alliance and Prevent Child Abuse–New Jersey.

Highlights from the event included New Jersey Department of Children and Families Assistant Commissioner Sanford Starr presenting proclamations from NJ Governor Mikie Sherrill to Debbie Riveros, Executive Director of New Jersey Children’s Alliance and PCA-NJ CEO/Executive Director Gina Hernandez. Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora also presented a proclamation. Mercer County Commissioner Lucy Walter spoke about the importance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
